Everyone’s favourite time of year is here, but along with obscene amounts of food and fun, for those of us who partake, it also means hangover season is upon us.
Now if you’re lucky enough to reside below the age of 25, you might still be getting away with a weekend routine that consists of minimal sleep, makeup wipes and Maccas. However, those of us who have reached and surpassed that quarter-life summit are in need of a slightly more...structured routine.
As a diuretic, alcohol has a habit of dehydrating and inflaming the skin. This can leave your face looking dry, red or puffy and enhance the appearance of any fine lines or wrinkles. Plus sugary beverages, like cocktails or white wines, can also lead to breakouts.
So! How do you save your skin from such occurrences? (Aside from abstaining of course - no thanks). Create yourself a skincare hangover routine...or just use ours!
THE NIGHT BEFORE
Like all good morning routines, this one starts the night before. You’ve stumbled through the door, feeling jolly but tired. Your bed is calling your name...but wait! You’ve got a few steps to complete before you’re allowed to crawl under the covers.
Step 1: Chug some water. Diuretic remember? A glass or two tonight won’t only help with the headache that’s likely already brewing, but it’ll also help replenish some of the water lost from your skin.
Step 2: Wash that makeup off. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but try to avoid the makeup wipes as most will just exacerbate the dry skin issue. Simply grab a cleanser, (we suggest our Perfect Cleansing Oil) and remove as much makeup as your intoxicated self can manage. An oil-based option will melt your makeup off without stripping your skin of its natural oils. Follow up with a moisturiser to lock those oils in and hit the hay, you deserve it!
THE NEXT MORNING
This is where the real work happens. We know you’re not feeling so great, but you had some water last night, so you’re not as bad as you could be, right?!
Step 1: It’s shower time. Last nights cleanse should have removed most of your makeup, so this morning you’re just focusing on nourishing and refreshing your skin. Our lightweight Perfect Foam Cleanser is perfect for gently removing impurities while keeping the skin moisturised.
