How to remove sunscreen stains from your clothes
Nothing spoils summer fun like those nasty, oily sunscreen stains on your favorite dress – wouldn’t you agree? Not wearing sunscreen is not an option though, as burnt and red skin is the least of the worries after unprotected exposure to the sun. And neither is simply hiding from the heat as that’s what summer is all about, right?
Luckily, not all hope is lost for your favorite summer outfits. Below, we’re sharing our tried and tested tips to tackle the yellowy-orange sunscreen stains without sacrificing the fun!
1. Remove the residue
Use a toothbrush or a blunt knife to remove any excess product from your clothing, then run it under cold running water (the stronger the pressure, the better).
2. Pre-treat
For this step, you can either use a store-bought stain remover, or a homemade mixture of baking soda with washing-up liquid. Gently rub the paste into the stain (you can also use a toothbrush) and leave it to soak for 5-10 minutes. Don’t forget to rinse thoroughly!
3. Try soaking in vinegar
For stubborn stains, you can even try soaking the stain in vinegar. Since most sunscreen products are oil-based, white vinegar is great for breaking down the product. If possible, avoid soaking the entire clothing and focus on the stain only.
4. Wash it as usual
If you’re happy with the result of the steps mentioned above, wash the clothing item in the usual setting, at the hottest possible temperature – just make sure to check the label to see the hottest temperature allowed.
